Our
great liege, King Richard (gawd bless him) otherwise known as the lion heart,
big Richard and tricky Dickey. Henceforth decrees and wishes known, that the
knaves and performing rascals known as ye olde Valley Players are ordered
on pain of death Never to perform on the estates, lands or dominions of said
King Richard.
However seeing as big Richard has gone on an all expenses paid holiday to Jerusalem (with Crusade Tours) we've decided to risk a performance or two.Welcome ye olde varlets to ye olde Englishe pantomime in this here ye olde village hall, to watch ye olde version of 'Robin Hood' played by ye very olde hacks (ye olde valley players). The jokes as ye might expect are of ye olde variety.
We offer to you the best the Middle Ages has to offer - Bubonic Plague, The Black Death, Ricketts, and leprosy. Please don't shake hands with anyone during the performance in case fingers fall off.
Many
of you will have seen the classic Hollywood 1938 film 'The Adventures of Robin
Hood' starring Errol Flynn, Olivia de Havilland and an all star cast. Our
version is nothing like that. However we had dug up Mr Flynn and offered him
a leading role but only received a dead silence.
So sit up straight Yeomen of England in ye olde village hall . Suffer the agony of discomfort in seats of ye olde English vinyl and gird your loins for battle. As archers draw back their English long bows, hear the twang as the elastic in actors tights snap and their courage waivers.
Laurence Olivier steps forward (yes he learned everything he knew about acting from the Valley Players - honest ! ) "Once more unto the stage dear friends, once more, for God, the Village Hall and the Doddington Panto!. Larry leads the rag bag motley Doddington cast in a stumbling charge , well sort of a shambling trudge really, onto the next scene...
