No.14 Walnut Tree House & Cottage

Walnut Tree HouseOn the corner of The Street and Old Lenham Road are Walnut Tree House and Cottage.

The original cottage dates back to the sixteenth century; the house was added during the eighteenth century - obscuring to onlookers a fine example of a mullion window. This feature can, however, still be enjoyed by the residents of the house since it is now situated on an internal wall.

On one of the bricks surrounding the main fireplace in the house has been carved P B and the date 1706. There is an upstairs door opening to the outside, once used by farm workers to reach their sleeping quarters.

The sheds were used for many different purposes and types of business, including a wheelwrights, an undertakers, a coach works and paint manufacturing.
