Building the Top Flite F4U-1A Corsair
61" wingspan for .60 size engines

We are not trying to replicate the instructions here (as those supplied are detailed) just provide a series of pictures of how we built the Corsair.

Engine Mounting

Because we were using a Webra 61 with 2:1 gearing engine mount we couldnt use the Top Flite bearers as per instructions/plan

'C' balsa ring added inside fire wall flush with outer edge to aid rounding and fixing balsa skinning.
Also reinforced inside firewall with half circle of 1/16 ply to reinforce engine mounting.

Marked where engine would mount on front of fire wall. Cut out square and replaced with 1/4 ply square and glued in
Webra 61 with 2:1 gearing
Cut out section and replace with 1/4 ply Glued in reinforcing 1/4 ply

Half of front reinforcing ply glued in place and engine mount positioned with engine to centre prop shaft and mark accordingly
Webra with engine mount
Temporarily place other half of ply reinforcement in place (keeps cowling level while centering engine)

re-inforcing firewall
Measuring from inner diameter of cowl at 4 points for centering engine. A cable tie was used to hold the engine to mount
