Childhood Memories / Memories of Doddington School

Newspaper cutting I found whilst sorting through all my "rubbish" after my move to Canterbury!
It's a cutting from the East Kent Gazette - I think around mid 60s.
At the table are the 2 Cuthbert girls, Eileen Neaves, my sister Sandra Waite and then me wearing a dress I made at school !!!
I think Mrs Wildash is one of the ladies serving.

In those days we were all penned on the top bank of the "boy's playing field" in our houses. Danes were yellow, I think Britons were blue, Romans & Normans - can't remember the colours offhand.


Click to enlargeI must have been racing when these were taken as am not in them. I can identify some of them, like my 2 sisters & others. Going by the way Sports Day changed at Teynham school when my boys were close to leaving, I guess Sports Days are nothing like this anymore. We used to have running, high jump (my brother broke his arm doing this), long jump, relays, chariot rides, etc etc etc

I can identify that the girl next to Susan Ruck is Margaret Dixon who used to live in Wineycock, Newnham.
Next to me is Christine Sage. Davey = Penelope

The shirts used by the school were donated by the disbanded Doddington Football Team (seniors) hence they were extremely large on us boys!
